Statement of Intent

At St Mary’s we want Design and Technology to be an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. We will present pupils with activities that will require them to use their creativity and imagination but also ask them to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems. The briefs will come from a variety of different contexts and pupils will need to consider their own needs as well as the needs of others.

Through Design and Technology sessions pupils will acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and use their skills from other subjects such as maths, science, computing and art. We want this subject to support pupils to take risks and become resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Pupils will be given opportunities to evaluate past and present examples of design and technology helping them to develop a more critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.
