Sept11_Louie

Class 3 Certificates

This week Louie, Saul and Amelia have gained certificates. Louie got his certificate for working hard and concentrating on his own learning – you can click here to see the work that he is particularly proud of. Saul has had a wonderful start to year 5, he has challenged himself in maths and been very quick to help out in the afternoons. Click here to see Saul’s favourite piece of work. It was Amelia’s hard work in maths and english along with working quickly and with increased confidence that got her her certificate. Click here to see the work she has chosen to share.

Sept11_William

Class 2 Certificates

We also had three certificate winners in Class 2, Joshua, Noah and William. William got his certificate for working hard and being a super friend to all. For Noah it was his super start to the year that impressed – he has been trying hard, particularly in all his written work. Joshua’s super concentration and listening skills got him his certificate – he has been trying hard in all lessons.

Sept11_Poppy

Class 1 Certificates

Poppy, Jack and Hamza were the winners in Class 1. Poppy was rewarded for being kind, helpful and caring to everyone in the class and Jack got his certificated for super sitting and listening on the carpet. Hamza got his certificate for his wonderful helpfulness, making sure the girls have their cardigans.

Class 1 w/c 13th July

It’s our last week of the school year and it has been a very different year to usual. We have certainly missed being with you but we’ve also been very impressed with how hard you’ve all worked and we’ve loved getting your messages and photographs.

Normally, at the end of this week we would watch a video together – perhaps you can do that as a family. Pick a film that everyone can enjoy, possibly an old favourite. Musicals are always fun, expecially if you can sing along.

Click here to download the full week’s work for Reception children and here for Years 1 and 2  or check out this page to find ideas and tips for different subjects.

There are lots of ideas on your worksheets for activities this week and for revision. Some things are so important they would be good to keep thinking about them through the holidays. Like number bonds – this video is a great way for remembering your number bonds.

Older children will be thinking and writing about meerkats this week, but we can all enjoy this little clip of meerkats in the wild.

I just want to say a huge WELL DONE to each and every one of you for your hard work during these strange times. I am so proud of you all for everything that you have achieved. It has not been easy but you have all risen to the challenges brilliantly. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Take care, stay safe and keep smiling.

Lots of love,

Mrs Nowell

There are lots of important revision ideas on your worksheet this week – you may even do some of them over the summer. On your sheet you have a lot of word problems – problem solving is an important part of maths as we can see in this video. Can you use your maths knowledge to find who ate all the cupcakes?

This week we want you to think about your most memorable moment in Class 2. Can you write about it – why was it so memorable?

Can you create a factfile or poster from your favourite part of history learning this year? It may be the Plague, or Ancient Egypt, or something else that really got you interested.

Imagine that you open your own ‘Sweetie Tuck shop’ where you can sell any sweets that you want.

You have £100 to spend on buying sweets and chocolates for your shop.

What will you buy with your £100? Use online shopping to help you. (Here’s a hint…buy multipacks that work out cheaper so that you could sell them for more profit!)

This week all your writing is linked to sweets and chocolate. There are lots of links to different videos and websites on your worksheet – all with a sweet theme. Do try and watch and read them all. We like this one from a Rock Factory.

Imagine you could make your own chocolate bar or sweets. What would you make?

Mine would be the Krispbisc bar!

Here are my ideas:

Class 1 w/c 6th July

Each week we try to get you thinking about PE and being active – it is so important for our physical and mental well-being but of course, when we have very rainy weeks, it can feel a bit daunting going outside – which is why we also like things like Yoga. This week we’re sharing this Cosmic Kids Adventure as it also reminds us how important washing our hands is.

Each week we will give you a task that must be completed, this is your Top Terrific Task.

This week’s task is RE (see below) and is linked to the story of Jesus walking on water. Act out the story and discuss it. Make your own picture of Jesus walking on water and try to write a sentence about it.

Click here to email me your work. I will send you a message back and if I haven’t heard from you by Friday I will get in touch to see if you need any extra help.

Click here to download the full week’s work for Reception and here for Y1 and 2, or check out this page to find ideas and tips for different subjects.

There are lots of maths activities on your worksheets this week including lots of work with numbers. If you enjoy games, we think this maths version of Guess Who (demonstrated by Andrew and Imogen) is very good. The game can be modified for lots of ages and abilities so it really is a whole family, fun game. Download the gameboards and instructions here.

This week’s writing is all about bears – brown bears, polar bears, grizzly bears and, of course, teddy bears. You’ll be thinking about all sorts of bears and preparing for a teddy-bears’ picnic, so to get you in the mood, here’s a great tune from Jungle Book.

In this story from Matthew Chapter 14, we see how Peter’s faith in Jesus allows him to walk on water.

See Tuesday’s science. This week we are thinking a lot about sea life. For your Top Terrific Task, research 1 or 2 sea creatures and create a fact file, poster or leaflet to share your findings.

There are lots of maths activities on your worksheets this week including lots of work with handling numbers. Being able to work quickly with numbers is very important – it helps us solve problems and ensures that we are able to function well in every day life. If you are good with mental maths you can quickly see if you’ve been given the right change in a shop, or work out how to make a recipe feed more (or less) people. One great way of keeping fast with calculations is playing games. We like this one because you have to use mental maths and also strategic thinking if you want to be the winner. Download the gameboards and instructions here.

Tuesday’s writing activity has you looking at setting. Setting is a very important part of a story and cannot just be left in the background. Harry Potter wouldn’t be the same if it were set in a desert, or under the sea; whilst the characters are very important, the setting also helps to create the story.

On Tuesday you will be creating a seaside setting and there are lots of hints on your worksheets. Watch the video below – it’s a rap with a catchy beat and it helps to show (and remind) you of the importance of setting in your writing.

This week we are thinking about sea creatures – did you know that around 70% of the earth’s surface is ocean? There are a lot of creatures in there.

On your worksheet you’ll find a lot of facts about certain creatures, and as part of your science we’d like you to find out more about one or two sea creatures. There is lots of information available online, and we particularly like these National Geographic short films.

This week all your writing is related to the zoo and you will be working towards writing a balanced argument about whether we should or shouldn’t have zoos.

If you have time, in your extra learning, how about writing a zoo based story? Think about something strange happening in the zoo. Who are the characters, what event happens, who is your target audience? This clip from Harry Potter may inspire you.

Sewing is a wonderful way of joining materials and securing things and, whilst we tend to think of sewing and fabrics it’s used for far more than that. Books used to always be joined with stitches and even nowadays many still are, and people are often repaired with stitches (although staples and glue are popular too).

Class 1 w/c 29th June

How is your science coming along? At the beginning of our Home Learning journey we shared some experiments with eggs and books and we thought we’d share some more home science experiments. In this series of science tricks you will be learning about different properties of water – remember to do them with an adult, they’re not dangerous but we don’t want water all over the kitchen!

Each week we will give you a task that must be completed, this is your Top Terrific Task.

Years 1 & 2

Bean Bag Buckets: You have 3 beanbags. Each bag is thrown into a bucket. More than one bag can go into a bucket.

Find three ways to score 6. Find three ways to score 9. What is the highest score you can get? What if each bucket was worth 10 times the points? So, 10, 20, 30 and 40. What would be your highest score then? Remember to send me your work – use the link in the section below.

Reception Children

Maths: Make a simple diary for the week. Write or cut out and sequence the days of the week. During the week draw a picture of what you do each day and use the diary to talk about today, tomorrow, yesterday.

Click here to email me your work. I will send you a message back and if I haven’t heard from you by Friday I will get in touch to see if you need any extra help.

This week you have lots of great maths activities to get on with but if you fancy a game with someone (or just to challenge yourself), we think this game – which helps you to understand the value of numbers is very good. In the video, Peter shows you how to play the game and you can download the full instructions and gameboard here.

This week older children will be developing their writing by using the Five Ws and H (see picture). If you remember to use these question words to build your writing they can help you write both fiction and non fiction. And don’t worry if you think it’s tricky to remember because the video below is a catchy tune to learn so that you’ll never forget!

Go for a walk together to see how the countryside has changed since the start of lockdown – there are questions to think about on your worksheet.

Try to find some wild flowers to take home with you. If they have fallen off the plants already that would be better. Place your flowers between two sheets of greaseproof paper — make sure it covers the whole flower so you won’t ruin your book! — and place inside the pages of a heavy book. Continue placing the rest of the flowers in various pages throughout the book then close the book firmly, applying pressure. Add additional books or objects to weigh it down and leave it undisturbed to allow the flowers to fully dry, which will take about 2-3 weeks.

After The Wait…

Use tweezers to gently remove the paper-thin flowers and help your child to arrange the pressed flowers into a design they like then glue it on the sheet of paper. This could be a picture to hang on the wall, a book mark or a greetings card. Don’t forget to show me your lovely pressed flowers.

Class 2 w/c 29th June

How is your science coming along? At the beginning of our Home Learning journey we shared some experiments with eggs and books and we thought we’d share some more home science experiments. In this series of science tricks you will be learning about surface tension. Remember that you should only do them with adult permission and do not do the last one (with the hot pan) unless there is an adult there with you.

Each week we will give you a task that must be completed, this is your Top Terrific Task.

This week’s Top Terrific Task is about Forgiveness (see Monday’s RE on your worksheet). Can you design a poster that shows the message of forgiveness and write a forgiveness prayer?

Click here to email me your work. I will send you a message back and if I haven’t heard from you by Friday I will get in touch to see if you need any extra help.

This week you will be learning how similes can improve your creative writing – don’t worry if that sounds comlicated, you can soon pick it up. A simile uses the words like or as to help create a picture of someone or something. There are lots of ideas on your sheet and, if you want another reminder, the song below is nice and catchy and teaches you about metaphors too!

Look at these two pictures, they show you how different life and holidays were in Victorian times. Can you imagine yourself in these pictures? How do you think the clothes would feel? What do you think of the children in the first picture? What can you tell about their lives? In the second picture you see Bathing Machines lined up to let the rich people go in the sea even though they couldn’t swim, what do they make you feel? Would you like to do that? Do you think everyone in the pictures is on holiday or are some working? What makes you think this?
