Holy Week: Saturday

Saturday was a much more peaceful day. Listen as Miss Halstead tells the next part of the story.

Jesus is Buried (Matthew 27:57-61 (ESV)

57 When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also was a disciple of Jesus. 58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. 59 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud 60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut in the rock. And he rolled a great stone to the entrance of the tomb and went away. 61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.

Good Friday

On Good Friday, we continue in Jesus journey with two videos from Miss Halstead. As yesterday, part 1 is on the left.

You can read the whole of this part of the story in Matthew Chapter 27. If it is easier for you to read online or on a device, we like to use Bible Gateway.

The Death of Jesus (Matthew 27:45-54 (ESV)

45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 47 And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” 48 And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. 49 But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.

51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, 53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. 54 When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

Holy Week: Thursday

Welcome to our Maundy Thursday reflections. The story of today is much longer so we have two videos. Make sure you watch the one on the left, first.

You can read all of today’s happenings in various Gospels, or you can go back to verse 17 of Matthew 26. Here we share just one part with you.

Institution of the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 26:26-11 (ESV)

26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

Holy Week: Wednesday

As we near the end of our Holy Week journey, we listen as Miss Halstead tells us what may of been going on on the Wednesday. We hear how moods were changing and, perhaps, we can recognise the need for rest and peace at this point in the story.

Come to Me, and I Will Give You Rest (Matthew 11:25-30 (ESV)

25 At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; 26 yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.g]”>[g] 27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Holy Week: Tuesday

Have you listened to Palm Sunday and Monday’s videos. They are the start to our story; today we listen as Jesus goes to the Mount of Olives with four of His Disciples and Judas meets with the Sanhedrin.

Signs of the End of the Age (Matthew 24:3-6 (ESV)

As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet.

Judas to Betray Jesus (Matthew 26:14-16)

14 Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.

Holy Week: Monday

Did you watch yesterday’s video message, perhaps you joined in with the celebrations and waved a palm leaf? Today’s video message looks at what Jesus did the day after Palm Sunday. It shows a very different side to Jesus.

Jesus Cleanses the Temple (Matthew 21:12-17 (ESV)

12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 13 He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.”

14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant, 16 and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read,

“‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies
    you have prepared praise’?”

17 And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.

Class 1 w/c 6th April

Here we are in the third week of our home/school learning adventure and at the start of Holy Week. We have lots of activities for you this week, including our Holy Week activities. Please do as much as you can.

We hope you enjoyed our PE and Art ideas, but how are you going with science experiments? Do you know there’s lots you can do at home and plenty of ideas on the internet too? In this video there’s a simple experiment that just needs books, paper and selotape.

Click on the links to download the full week’s ideas for Year 1/2 and Reception children or check out this page to find ideas and tips for different subjects.

This week try to think a lot about counting on and counting back. Mental maths is very important. Get a grown-up or brother/sister to tell you a number (start with 0 to 20 and then get harder) then ask them to challenge you to tell them 3 more, 4 less… and so on.

Can you write an Easter Acrostic Poem? If you manage that, perhaps you can look at other words – Saviour would be a good one to try. Remember to share your poems with us.

Can you make an Easter Garden? Here is a picture of one but we would love to see some of yours. If you manage to make your Easter Garden try to think about all the people in the Easter story. How would they be feeling as things happened? How does the story make you feel?

Class 2 w/c 6th April

Here we are in the third week of our home/school learning adventure and at the start of Holy Week. We have lots of activities for you this week, including our Holy Week activities. Please do as much as you can.

This week we are thinking about Perimeter – if you have a measuring tape you can find the perimeter of each room in your house. Or measure the perimeter of your lawn or yard. If you have a ruler you can find the perimeter of smaller things – your dining table, the tv, a rug. Remember, we find the perimeter by adding together the length of all the sides.

Keep writing your diary. This week take a look back… has your writing changed? Try to imagine someone finding your diary and reading it in the future. Can you make your entries more interesting? Not by making things up but by improving the language. Think about adjectives and adverbs to enrich your writing.

Think about the Last Supper. If you can, find a story online or look in the Bible (Matthew 26:17-30) tells us about the moment when Jesus broke the bread and shared the wine. Think about how this last meal felt – for Jesus and for the Disciples. Can you draw a picture of the Last Supper?

Class 3 w/c 06th April

Here we are in the third week of our home/school learning adventure and at the start of Holy Week. We have lots of activities for you this week, including our Holy Week activities. Please do as much as you can.

We hope you enjoyed our PE and Art ideas, but how are you going with science experiments? Do you know there’s lots you can do at home and plenty of ideas on the internet too? In this video there’s a simple experiment that just needs books, paper and selotape.

This week think about data collecting – ask members of your family (use WhatsApp or another messaging service to ask people outside your home) about their favourite chocolate & complete the activities on your work sheet.

Complete a role in the wall task for either Jesus or Judas. Think about the events of Easter week and how both men would have been feeling. Draw a person outline. On the inside think about the feelings that Jesus or Judas would have been having. On the outside, write about their actions and the things that they did.

Create a timeline of Easter week. You could do this in one go or build it up throughout the week. Write a little bit about each day’s events (you may need to use a Bible or the internet to help you with this). This would include Palm Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday.
